NSW Health has released a number of “Healthy Safe Summer” posters, with:
tips to stay healthy during summer
tips to stay cool during summer and reduce the risk of heat-related illness
tips to reduce the risk of mosquito bites in summer
tips for travellers to keep healthy and safe during summer holidays
tips for seniors to stay safe during hot weather

Water Safety Awareness Campaigns

– Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA)’s has launched “Stay, Look, Stay Alive” Campaign to help reduce coastal drowning incidents, featuring an educational video and a virtual education course on beach water safety.
– Surf Life Saving NSW has released an educational multicultural community targeted beach safety program, wnich can be delivered virtually or face to face in a selection of languages, as well as translated Beach Safety Resources.
– NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service has launched a targeted beach safety campaign for the Mandarin-speaking Chinese community, including a translated webpage and campaign toolkit.

Sector Sustainability Survey Results

Council of Social Service of NSW (NCOSS) recently surveyed services on managing funding and delivery costs in 2023-24, and has released the findings, which include:
– Almost two thirds of the organisations saw their costs exceed the funding received
– 86% said that their costs exceeded the Government indexation they received
– Over half of the organisations are likely to make further cuts to survive
– 90% said their financial situation is as bad, or worse, than the early days of COVID

Not-for-profit Sector Development Blueprint

Australia’s network of Councils of Social Service has welcomed the release of the Not-for-profit Sector Development Blueprint and called for the Federal Government to implement its recommendations. Facilitated by the Federal Government, the Blueprint has been developed by the Not-for-Profit Sector as a 10-year reform roadmap for a stronger and more sustainable sector.

Report: Material Deprivation in Australia – The Essentials of Life

A report by Poverty and Inequality Partnership led by Australian Council of Social Service (ACOSS) and University of NSW (UNSW) Sydney found eight groups of people are particularly at high risk of multiple deprivation: people relying on JobSeeker Payment; Parenting Payment; Disability Support Pension or Youth Allowance; sole parent families; First Nations people; and those renting social housing or privately.
